Swami Vivekananda

Hey readers, today’s blog will be about a famous Indian monk, Swami Vivekananda. I hope you enjoy reading it!😁😁

Swami Vivekananda, born as Narendranath Datta, was an Indian Hindu monk. He was born in a Bengal family, on 12th January 1863 in Calcutta (modern day Kolkata), in British India. he had 8 siblings and his parents were Vishwanth Datta-father- and Bhubaneswari Devi-mother. He was very naughty as a child and his mother often said, “I asked Lord Shiva for a child, but he sent me one of his demons instead!”.

Swami Vivekananda was a genius in school- he studied lots of languages and subjects and his teachers praised him often. He was also known to ‘speed read’ which means he read books or scripts impossibly fast. He used to borrow dozens of book from libraries and used to return them the next day! Librarians quizzed him to say single phrases or words from random places of books, and he always said it right: he memorized each and every word in each and every book he read! His memory was so great and his eyes moved so quick, he could read a full book in one, single look!

Swami Vivekananda’s guru was Sri Ramakrishna, a very well-learnt saint and relegious leader. His guru was a TRUE worshipper of god, so he could talk to god whenever he wanted (he had achieved something called enlightenment). Swami vivekananda and Sri Ramakrishna met when Vivekananda’s school teacher was explaining the word ‘trance’ and Sri Ramakrishna’s name kept popping up. So a couple of students, including Narendranath, got inspired and went to meet the saint. Thus, Sri Ramakrishna also wanted to teach curious Narendranath more and accepted him as a student.

Swami Vivekananda battled more than 31 diseases- malaria, lung diseases, heart failure etc…- in his lifetime so only lived until he was 39 years old.

His teachings were of varoius aspects of education, faith, youth and social issues of india. He joined many social groups to discourage young people to smoking, drinking and harmful things. He believed that the youth should be very healthy so he spread awaress to not do harm to your body. His teachings also included character building- not to have jealousy and to help others without expecting any rewards. He said if you have faith in gods and luck, but lack to have faith in yourself, you will not move on and prosper.

Swami Vivekananda’s professions were a teacher, an author, a monk, a poet and a philosopher. He spread his teachings around by travelling very often and faraway, giving long speeches which people never got bored of, writing poems, scripts and books and by going to certain places and teaching in person as well. Swami Vivekananda said many interesting quotes, which really affected people’s thoughts and words. My favourite one is, ‘Take risks in life- if you win, you lead and if you lose, you guide.’ That quote tells you how to move on in life.

So guys, that’s it for this blog, I hope you learnt something new. BYE!!!!!😁
